Twilight--Let's Suck the Tweenies Dry

Will the insanity never end?

Not only has Twilight infiltrated the preteen population, it's knocking on my doorstep. My 55-year-old aunt has virtually consumed all the books, and my littlest cousin has tacked a poster of Edward Cullen to the ceiling right above her bed. That has GOT to be the creepiest thing I've seen lately. [My middle cousin, Katie, and I are hatching a diabolical scheme to scare the crap out of her--put glowing discs on his eyes, draw dripping blood on his face, etc. It won't take much--believe me]

Now, to add insult to injury, Hot Topic has taken it to the next level. Now you, too, can smell like Bella:

Really? I mean, people are worried about creating unrealistic expectations for young women (and we're all interested in avoiding unhealthy relationships--Bella completely relinquishes all control/interest in her life to be absorbed in a man--no thank you), and this product only serves to promote that behavior. It's clear the promoters want girls to think, "If I can SMELL like Bella, I can get an Edward!" Sickness.

And this whole idea in the product description:

The forbidden fruit tastes the sweetest! So take a bite of this apple-shaped bottle. It contains a delicious lavender and freesia scented perfume. 2.7 fluid ounces. Imported.

"Forbidden fruit"? Really? I know we've discussed the possibility of a "fortunate fall" in reference to Milton and Paradise Lost, but this is definitely not good for the poor, nice guy next door.

Maybe this is all ridiculous and I'm just blowing this out of proportion. At any rate, a lot of parents will be short $50 bucks in the near future.

Oh, and a little added bonus? The design for the bottle is totally ripped off of "Nina" by Nina Ricci: http://www.parfumoutlet.hu/catalog/images/NinaRicciNinaW.jpg

Yeah, really classy.

Suck on that sparkly vampires.
